- Books a million - Thursday, December 29, 2005

I LOVE books, I got a lot of them for Christmas. I got "Memoirs of a Geisha", "Their Eyes were watching God", Trey got me "Mirror, Mirror", Harry Potter 3 (to complete my collection, somehow I was missing my favorite HP book!) "Girl With a Pearl Earring", and I bought myself some books (only b/c the bookstore in the mall is going out of business and everything was 40% off :) ) I got "Where the Heart Is", "Watership Down", "War of the Worlds", and "Why Do Men Have Nipples?" (it's very entertaining). I'm currently reading "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. It's SO good! It's a completely different view of the wicked Witch of the West. It shows her as a child, then college years with her roommate...Glinda. I'm only halfway through, but it's really good, it makes you like the wicked witch of the west. All of Gregory Maguire's books take a different view on classic fairy tales told the same way over and over and over again with little details changed. He creates a new world, and an all new spin on the stories we grew up on with a little sexual humor, politics and drama. "Wicked" was his first book, I believe, He's also written "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" (a Cinderella story from the perspective of the ugly stepsister, i think and the curses Cinderella goes through being beautiful), There's "Mirror, Mirror" a Snow White story, "Son of a Witch", a sequal to "Wicked", it's about the Wicked witch of the West's son, and "Lost". To see what these books are all about go to http://www.gregorymaguire.com. You won't be sorry! Ok, sorry to advertise again today but cut me some slack, Outdoor Interactive can be very boring!

♣ the Lotus Flower is the only flower to fruit and flower simultaneously
♣ the Lotus can bloom in the clearest ponds and muddiest marshes
♣ the Lotus became a symbol of immortality and resurrection because people observed that they grew from dried up pools after the monsoon season
♣ Lotus seeds can germinate 200 years after they are shed
